Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli ruled out of Spurs clash with Liverpool

Hugo Lloris, who was found guilty of drink and driving a couple of weeks ago has been fined £50,000 and banned for 20 months from driving.

The 31-year-old, who has made more than 200 league appearances for his club since signing in 2012, was stopped when officers saw his vehicle being driven at 15mph in a 30mph zone in Gloucester Place, central London, in the early hours of August 24.

Lloris' defense explained he had been eating in a restaurant and that he had been invited to several drinks following France's World Cup success in a month prior to the incident. There was vomit inside the auto and Lloris needed to be helped from the vehicle.

The court heard Lloris provided a sample containing 80 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit in England and Wales is 35 microgrammes.

He had issued an apology before Wednesday's court appearance, saying in a statement: "I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters".

By 2am, he was "completely drunk", said Mr Sonn, who added that, when a taxi cancelled on him, he made the "unwise decision" to drive home. He made a mistake and is suffering, and is punishing himself.

Lloris did not feature in either of France's contests in the global break. "I did. Rather than congratulate him, people need to thank me".

He has also won more than 100 global caps and lifted the World Cup during the summer, after France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final.

But Lloris's London club are now left to ponder what to do with their starting keeper after his conviction for a serious driving offence.

Lloris missed Tottenham's last game against Watford after sustaining a thigh injury, with Michel Vorm drafted in to deputise in his absence during the 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road. A team spokesman said before the sentencing that Tottenham were treating the entire matter "extremely seriously".
