Iranian accusations on terror attack: Here’s what UAE says

Thousands of people gathered Monday (Sep 24) morning in the south-western Iranian city of Ahvaz for the funeral of those killed during an attack on a military parade.

Tehran accused Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark of harbouring terrorists after the attack on a parade ground in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, centre of Iran's Arab minority.

The Islamic State group also claimed responsibility.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the attack showed Iran has "a lot of enemies", according to remarks posted on his website, in which he linked the attackers to the U.S., Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. You will see that our response will be crushing and devastating and you will regret what you have done, ' deputy IRGC head Hossein Salami said in a speech before the funeral of the victims in Ahvaz, broadcast live on the state television.

"As you can see now, all of the people, whether they're Lor, Arab, Shushtari or Dezfuli, are all here today and all say death to the terrorists", he told AFP.

Iran's intelligence minister said on Monday that a "large" network of suspects have been arrested in connection with Saturday's attack on a military parade in the city of Ahvaz that killed 25 people.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash has rejected accusations by Iran that the US Gulf allies were responsible for the attack in the Islamic republic on Saturday. He adds: "We will destroy them with a strong and guerrilla-style attack, inshallah (God willing)".

A number of Iranian officials, including Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani, are expected to travel to Trump's hometown of New York City next week for high-level meetings at the United Nations General Assembly.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the United States and its regional allies were responsible for the attack.

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, rejected Iran's accusations.

"He's got the Iranian people. protesting, every ounce of money that goes into Iran goes into his military, he has oppressed his people for a long time and he needs to look at his own base to figure out where that's coming from", she said.

Senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards have said the Ahvaz attack was carried out by militants trained by Gulf states and Israel, as well as supported by America. But it is unlikely the IRGC will strike any of these foes directly.

The New York Times reported that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said of the attack: "The crime is a continuation of the conspiracy of USA -backed states in the region, which has set itself the goal of creating insecurity in our beloved country". Iranian leaders blamed the US and Israel and threatened retaliation. The oil super-powers are waging a war for influence across the Middle East, backing opposite sides in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon.

Four gunmen reportedly wearing military uniforms opened fire on troops taking part in the event, bystanders, and a viewing stand for officials.
