Keegan Bradley beats Justin Rose in BMW Championship playoff

That's because Rose bogeyed the 72nd hole then the first playoff hole to lose the BMW Championship to American Keegan Bradley, who picked up his fourth career PGA Tour victory but first since 2012.

Relentless as the rain, Bradley accomplished what Woods could not, staving off Rose, the new No. 1 player in the world, to claim the trophy - and Bradley's first PGA Tour victory in six years.

On a rain-soaked Aronimink-players teed off in threesomes early Monday morning after the final round was rained out completely on Sunday-Bradley and Rose emerged from a bunched leaderboard that included Tiger Woods, who finished three shots out of a playoff at 17-under.

Winner Bradley said: "It means everything, it took a lot of hard work to get back to this spot". Both Bradley and Rose came to the 18th hole at 21-under before Bradley, playing in the group ahead of Rose, made bogey to open the door for Rose.

"Might have needed a 61 today", he said.

After a mid-round sandwich and yet another birdie at No. 13, Woods had pulled within one shot of the lead, but he failed to finish his rally.

"At the end of the season here to say that I made it back to the Tour Championship after what I've been through is a pretty good accomplishment", Woods said.

Bradley had to wait almost two days before chasing down Rose. I don't normally love looking at leaderboards, but I watched them all day. Bradley also holds the lowest round in program history with a first round 63 at the Treasure Coast Championship in his junior season.

He was tied with Xander Schauffele on the 18th hole of the third round Saturday when Schauffele's 8-foot par putt rimmed around the high side of the cup, giving him a bogey and Rose the lead.

For the sixth time in his career, Woods shot 263 or better.

Tee times slowly got pushed back from 9am, to noon, then 1pm. "I'd hate to round off the season with three seconds, but that could be good enough next week, you just never know".

Woods tweeted on August 30, 2017 that doctors had cleared him to chip and putt, four months after undergoing fusion surgery on his back - his fourth back procedure in all.

As Bradley thrust his arms into the air, his family joined him in celebration on the green. He fell out of the top 30 and will miss the Tour Championship for the first time.

Still to be determined is the penalty.

By virtue of his return to East Lake - his first trip since 2013 - Bradley will once again reap the benefits of being a top-30 player on Tour. No one has violated the 2-year-old policy, and the tour has not figured out a punishment.

"I obviously accept whatever fine it is and move on and try and add one every year, but it's kind of tough", Spieth said.
