Liverpool legend says Klopp doesn't need to win silverware this season

Club legend John Barnes has hailed the positive mood at Liverpool FC under Jurgen Klopp this season.

It's not something that I ever have a ready answer for but if I had to choose between the club making significant progress in the league or winning a trophy, I would say that most times I would choose to win a domestic cup.

It remains to be seen whether or not the global break has disrupted the momentum Liverpool had built up, as they bid to quickly make a return to winning ways on Saturday.

Liverpool sit top of the early-season Premier League table after a flawless start, off the back of an ambitious summer of transfer activity which saw the club break the world transfer record for a goalkeeper to bring in Brazilian number one Alisson.

Shaqiri said to the Daily Mirror: "He wants that we work hard - always - on the pitch".

"The World Cup takes a little bit of the legs out of some of your players but they'll start to come into consideration and give us more on the day". One of the early ones is scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in a 4-2 home win.

Liverpool spent big over the summer, splashing out upwards of £175m to bolster their ranks.

"But as starts go, you can't ask for anything more and I do think we can get better". And at this point we'd have to say so far, so good.

Of course, you accept it because that's modern football, you just need to try and focus on the game but these games can often be slow starting and low on quality, because the players aren't fully rested and concentrated.

"I'm the kind of person who thinks that if I score eight goals in one season my objective must be to score nine goals in the following season", he said.

For instance, Klopp was not completely satisfied with the 2-1 win at Leicester before the worldwide break.
