Prosecutor says accuser good with Cosby sentence

He did not say a word.

In a statement issued after the sentence was handed down, Cosby's wife, Camille, claimed that a phone recording played at trial was doctored. Neither were his children.

Cosby spent a few hours at the county jail Tuesday before heading to SCI Phoenix, a 3,830-bed lockup that opened two months ago.

"This was a serious crime", Judge Steven O'Neill said after the verdict was read. "Not saying Mr. Cosby's Jesus, but we know what this country has done to black men for centuries. The day has come, the time has come ... you took her [Andrea Constand's] attractive healthy young spirit and crushed it". He quoted from victim Andrea Constand's statement submitted to the court, in which she said Cosby took her "beautiful, young spirit and crushed it".

"I heard the very clear impact on your life", the judge told Constand during sentencing.

Cosby remained expressionless when the judge read the sentence and did not address the court during the sentencing hearing. I mean, I get it.

Cosby's lawyers tried to get O'Neill to step aside before the retrial, but never mentioned the feud. They argued that the development was enough to keep Cosby out on bail while he appeals, but O'Neill refused.

The newly-dubbed "sexually violent predator" will not be required to shell out the salaries for those who worked the case, and the DA's office is not seeking any reimbursement for his 2017 mistrial, officials said.

He went on to accuse the prosecution and even the judge of conspiring to produce "falsified evidence" against Cosby.

His legal team has already filled an appeal of the trial.

Constand testified that Cosby gave her what she thought were herbal pills to ease stress, then penetrated her with his fingers as she lay immobilized on a couch. The media circus that ensued included character attacks on her and her family, while a 2005 civil case forced her to relive the horrifying event. The former comedian, 81, has been accused by dozens of women of drugging and raping them, with allegations of sexual abuse spanning decades.

In 2017, Cosby's first trial ended in a mistrial after a jury from Allegheny County declared itself hopelessly deadlocked. Many of those cases are past the statute of limitations for Cosby to face charges, but in April he was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in his Cheltenham, Penn. home in 2004.
