Woman Finds ‘Exceptionally Rare' Two-Headed Snake In Her Garden

The nearly Satanic serpent was found with both heads moving independently.

The baby Eastern Copperhead snake was found in a yard in a northern Virginia neighbourhood and pictures and a video of it twisting and wriggling were posted to Facebook by a wildlife expert.

The gruesome discovery was made by Stephanie Myers who said: "I wanted to look away but couldn't stop looking at it".

One person commented on the image: "This is what nightmares are made of".

Two heads better? Virginia Wildlife Management/Splash News Two heads better?

Snakes with a mutation like this have a hard time surviving in the wild, Kleopfer said, adding that it's because the two heads often want to do "two different things".

A two-headed baby copperhead was found earlier this month outside a home in Woodbridge, Virginia.

"Radiographs revealed that the two-headed snake has two tracheas (the left one is more developed), two esophaguses (the right one is more developed), and the two heads share one heart and one set of lungs".

Kleopfer said the snake is in the care of a private reptile keeper with viper-raising experience.

Writing on his personal Facebook page, herpetologist John D Kleopfer noted "Wild bicephalic snakes are exceptionally rare" and explained that creatures like this don't tend to live long due to "too many challenges living day to day with two heads". Professionals are caring for it, and if the snake survives, it will be donated to a zoo for an educational exhibit.

Copperhead snakes are extremely venomous and pose a huge risk to humans, according to Gerald O'Malley, professor of emergency medicine and toxicology at Grand Stand Medical Centre in Myrtle Beach.
