Actresses Slam Disney Films, Knightley Says Some Banned From Her House

But that's not Bell's only contention with the fairy tale classic; it's the method by which Snow White awakens from her poisonous slumber that really irks the actress.

She revealed that, while she loves reading bedtime stories to her children, she has been forced to use the example of Snow White to help teach her daughters about the importance of consent.

Food from a stranger is hardly the only part of Snow White that Bell takes issue with; there's also the uninvited kiss The Prince gives Snow while she's sleeping.

"Don't you think that it's weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?"

Bell is the voice of Princess Anna in the highly popular animated film Frozen, but recently she told Parents magazine that Snow White is too trusting of strangers by taking the apple from the witch in the 1937 film. After watching it, I would look at them and ask, "Don't you think it's weird that the prince brings Snow White back to life? Because you can not kiss someone if they're sleeping", she said.

She told the magazine she also warns her 3- and 5-year-old daughters not to take apples - or anything else - from strangers.

I adore @Disney films but @IMKristenBell is right these films have such power to influence young minds, I have grown to resent just how inappropriate the messaging is. "Don't! Rescue yourself. Obviously!"

She's not the only actress who's questioning Disney movies.

However, Bell, 38, wants her daughters to question the morality behind such a plotline in a post-#MeToo-awareness world where consent is considered the most important factor between two people engaging in any sexual or romantic activity.

And sometimes she asks the tougher questions. "Little Mermaid. I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello!" "I'm like, 'Mom, you read this to me?' God bless the 80s, I don't know how we got through".

"I love 'The Little Mermaid, ' so that one's a little bit tricky, but I'm keeping to it", she added.

Other Twitter users agreed with Bell that some of the storylines in the older fairytales didn't age well.
