Antwan Toney Case: Suspect in Georgia Officer's Death Killed

Days after he shot and killed a Georgia police officer, suspect Tafahree Maynard was himself shot and killed by police after a three-day manhunt.

Members of the 94th Gwinnett County police academy class walked on stage, each carrying a candle in honor of their slain classmate Officer Antwan Toney.

Gwinnett County Police said in a statement early Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, that 19-year-old Pretlow was arrested about 11: 30 p.m. Saturday and charged with aggravated assault.

Maynard faced charges of aggravated assault and felony murder in the Saturday afternoon shooting of Officer Antwan Toney.

Police say an officer shot and killed the man charged in the shooting death of an Atlanta-area police officer.

Toney, who joined the department almost three years ago, was responding with other officers to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Shiloh Middle School around 2:30 pm., police said.

According to police, Pretlow drove the vehicle away after the shooting, crashed a short distance away and fled along with other occupants.

Toney died at a hospital over the weekend from his wounds, police said. "He failed to comply with the verbal commands". Dozens of police officers went door-to-door in a searching for him.

The shooting happened near Shiloh Middle School, about 25 miles (40 kilometres ) northeast of Atlanta.

Ayers said there was a third person in the vehicle with Maynard and Pretlow, but that person has not been identified and is not facing any charges, said Cpl.

The second suspect, Tafahree Maynard, 18, remained at large until police received a tip that he had been seen in the Snellville area on Monday.

He said that following the shooting, Maynard jumped out of the auto and ran.
