Barcelona 4 - 2 Sevilla | 20 Oct 2018

Barcelona moved to the top of La Liga with an impressive two-goal success over in-form Sevilla, but the victory came at a cost with Messi being forced off the field in the first period.

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will miss three weeks with a fracture of the radial bone in his right arm, the team announced Saturday.

After Sunday's clasico, Messi also stands to miss a Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa, the return leg against Inter and league contests with Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis leading up to the next worldwide break.

Messi will sit out next weekend's Clasico against Real Madrid , as well as Barca's Champions League fixtures against Inter.

Despite the injury to Messi, Barcelona extended their lead in the second half through a Luis Suarez penalty.

It means he is nearly certainly out of Sunday's Clasico against Real Madrid. "He will be out for approximately three weeks", stated F.C. Barcelona on Twitter.

"We must prepare ourselves and have resources to cope without him, even if there are tough game".

Messi left Barca's La Liga match against Sevilla in the 26th minute on Saturday.

Lionel Messi, however, featured in both those games. He'll miss three others, including the return game against Inter.

"It's a significant loss, given who we're talking about", Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde said in a postmatch conference.

Luis Muriel and Clement Lenglet's own goal meant that Sevilla scored two goals for themselves though they turned out to be only consolations.

At first Barca seemed unconcerned by Messi's injury, with Ousmane Dembele taking an age to warm up.

The game seemed up but Marc-Andre ter Stegen had to make a brilliant double save to deny Sarabia and then Wissam Ben Yedder with his thigh.

Real Madrid was four points behind Barcelona, in fifth place.
