Beckham interview could cause Giants' rift

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had a few things to get off his chest Sunday. "And I texted [Shurmur], and I asked if I could have a minute to just talk to the team, because I feel like if we're not all on the same page. if it's not authentic and real, and we can all understand each other, then there's always gonna be miscommunication", Beckham said after Sunday's loss.

Former NFL Quarterback and Superbowl champ Trent Dilfer sat down with Colin Cowherd to discuss the interview Odell Beckham Jr. had with ESPN's Josina Anderson over the weekend.

During the interview, he seemingly took veiled shots at Eli Manning and head coach Pat Shurmur with comments like, "I feel like I'm being out-schemed" and "How come we can't throw the ball for more than 20 yards?". "So last night, at the team meeting, Odell Beckham got up in front of the entire team, said wrong message guys, won't happen again". We know Eli's not going to run it. But is it a matter of time issue?

"You know you still have a chance to get to where you want to go, but we definitely would rather be 4-1 or 5-0 or whatever", he said. During the first four weeks, Manning completed a high percentage of his pass attempts (74.2) and posted a solid passer rating (99.1), but he averaged only 7.0 yards per attempt and threw four touchdowns. He misplayed a punt that led to a Panthers touchdown but also had eight catches for 131 yards that included his first receiving touchdown this season and a 57-yard touchdown pass to running back Saquon Barkley.

"Also, let this serve as the congratulations for the touchdown record because as you can see I'm very busy", Manning added.

Well, we are now five games into the 2018 National Football League season and the Giants are 1-4 after cleaning house and drafting a player in Saquon Barkley who was supposed to be a franchise changing talent.

Beckham, who signed a massive contract extension this offseason, seems frustrated in his role. He remains encouraged about the close games the Giants have played.

"I want to be the best that I can". Instead, Newton spiked it on first down because McCaffrey did pick up the first down. The last time they failed to convert a single third down was December 24, 2006, against the Saints. "And not to say that it's not going to work at the moment".

"I just haven't been in this situation".

While we don't expect him to take Manning's job any time soon, Beckham should feel pretty good about the play.

Beckham went as far as to say he's "heated" and, ideally, would play in a more heated climate. "We've had these conversations and like I said, we're all moving forward onto Philly".
