Famous NZ cricket win included in match-fixing claims

Al Jazeera says it has obtained "purported recordings of a match-fixer calling in the fixes to a notorious Indian bookmaker linked to the organised crime".

"Prior to the broadcast of Al Jazeera's documentary, Cricket Australia's Integrity Unit conducted a review of the latest claims by Al Jazeera and, from the limited information provided by Al Jazeera, our team have not identified any issues of corruption by any current or former player, including in relation to Big Bash League matches".

In all, the broadcasters question the credibility of 15 global matches across the three formats, claiming 26 spot-fixes were arranged.

"As with the first programme we have, and will continue to, ask for the cooperation of the broadcaster".

Al Jazeera's investigative unit has reported around 24 instances of spot-fixing between 2011 and 2012 in 15 global matches.

"As you would expect we will again take the contents of the program and any allegations it may make seriously and will investigate fully".

A small group of England players were involved in spot-fixing during seven global matches in 2011 and 2012, according to a new investigation into corruption.

Whether the fixers have been in operation or not before England's match - and one assumes the al-Jazeera programmes have, at least, reduced that possibility - we can anticipate England's players would prefer to see a surface more favourable to batsmen than spin bowlers when they arrive there in a fortnight's time; for purely cricketing reasons the Sri Lankans may take the alternative view. They have to do more than pinpoint those who are engaged in spot-fixing off the field. Al Jazeera, however, has decided against revealing the identities of the players.

Allegations of spot-fixing by English cricketers have been dismissed by the England and Wales Cricket Board's Integrity Team. It is a powerful South Asian mafia that operates out of Pakistan, India and Dubai, and is believed to be heavily involved in match-fixing. Munawar is heard saying he is sending money to the player's account.

The matches in question include an England-India Test that was played at the Lord's Cricket Ground, South Africa's match against Australia in Cape Town and several matches during England's tour against Pakistan in the UAE. "Numerous matches appear to include multiple fixes, making a total of 26 fixes in the 15 matches", said the report.

The documentary claims that Munawar successfully predicted 25 out of 26 outcomes; in the one he couldn't, Munawar missed the mark by a solitary run.

The recordings aired by Al Jazeera claim to show a conversation between an alleged match-fixer and an English cricketer where payments are discussed.

"We are also working closely with the PCA (Professional Cricketers' Association) and keeping them informed".

"The ECB takes its responsibilities on anti-corruption and preserving the integrity of cricket very seriously. We do welcome the commitment from the broadcaster to share the files with Interpol and, I hope, other law enforcement agencies who can act upon the information and support us in ridding the sport of these criminals", Marshall said in the statement.

International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit General Manager, Alex Marshall has said that the cricket's international body is seriously combating corruption in the wake of recent corruption allegations made against it.

The ECB said analysis by their integrity team of the "limited information" handed to them by Al Jazeera "cast no doubt on the integrity or behaviour of any England player, current or former".
