Julia Goerges into final at Luxembourg Open

Julia Goerges won her second WTA title of the season by overcoming Belinda Bencic in a tight affair in the Luxembourg Open final. Alongside a quarterfinal appearance at the Moscow River Cup, she rose to a new career-high ranking of nine although her season went haywire since then.

Goerges, 29, didn't drop a service game throughout and praised the 21-year-old Bencic afterward.

Goerges rode on her momentum from the previous year; extending her winning streak to 14 matches having claimed the title at the ASB Classic.

Despite failing to find her form, Goerges remained in the top-10 through the following months.

Swiss qualifier Bencic was too strong for the Ukrainian teenager, finally winning out 6-2, 3-6,7-6 (5) to end Yastremska's incredible run which saw her burst onto the scene by winning the Hong Kong Open last week.

The German won her first tournament of the year in Auckland, reached another final at Charleston in April, and the Wimbledon semifinals. "It was very long, eight matches was kind of long for me coming from qualifying".

Kasatkina recovered from a disastrous first set to win the second in a tiebreak, thanks in large part to 38 unforced errors from Jabeur.
