Porsche putting second EV into series production; derivative of Taycan

While an all-electric Macan is still yet to be officially announced by the automaker, it is now certain that it will mass-produce a second electric sports auto: the Mission E Cross Turismo, which was first presented as a concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018.

Unlike the Mission E Cross Turimso, they Taycan Sport Turismo looks like it will have a normal ride height, rather than a raised, SUV-like profile.

"The second electric athlete from Zuffenhausen: At its meeting on 18 October, the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG gave the green light for series production of the concept study Mission E Cross Turismo", said Porsche. With a full charge, the system promises a range of 500km on the NEDC test cycle.

The announcement is yet another step in the €6 billion plan by the company in order to prepare for the shift to electric mobility by 2022.

Porsche explains it will hire more than 300 additional employees to produce the vehicle, which will join the 1,200 new jobs the automaker is creating to cover the assembling of the Taycan starting from next year.

To build the all-electric Cross Turismo, Porsche will need to employ an additional 300 people - it's interesting to note that 20 years ago Porsche employed about 7,000 people, but with the massive expansion into saloons and SUVs first, and now electrification second, the company today employs almost five times that many staff. It will also reach 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds and be able to add almost 250 miles of range back in just 15 minutes of charging.
