Salah returns to Liverpool after picking up injury

Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have both sustained injuries while on global duty with Egypt and the Netherlands respectively.

The Liverpool forward was among the goals as his country registered a 4-1 victory over Swaziland in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Cairo and was later taken-off with a suspected hamstring injury.

"These allegations are incorrect", a spokesman said.

In a double blow for Jurgen Klopp, Van Dijk has also been ruled out of his nation's second match for the worldwide break, with the Dutch Football Association reporting that their captain is still suffering from an injury sustained against Southampton. But Salah was injured in the first game.

Having swept his way to 44 goals last season, the PFA Player of the Year award and the Premier League Golden Boot, much was expected of an Egyptian sensation during his second year at Anfield.

Salah, along with West Bromwich Albion's Ahmed Hegazy, reported to the Egypt squad later than the rest of the players, with head coach Javier Aguirre affording him extra rest after Liverpool's game with Manchester City.

The Reds will continue to monitor Salah over the next few days before knowing whether he will be available to play in the league on the weekend or not.

The defender played the entirety of Netherlands' 3-0 win over Germany on Friday, but the Dutch Football Association said he is still suffering from a rib injury that he aggravated last month.

Liverpool are joint top of the Premier League table with 20 points and face Huddersfield on Saturday, the flawless opportunity to get back to winning ways after back to back draws against Chelsea and Manchester City.
