After a serious of teases, it became pretty clear that the new hex nut Pokemon would somehow be linked to the upcoming Pokemon Let's Go titles.

While Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee pare back the series' sprawling bestiary to only the original 151 monsters (plus their Alolan variants), players will be able to obtain one entirely new Pokemon in the games: the odd Mythical Pokemon Meltan. Their findings reveal a little about it, including how it'll be caught in Pokemon Go on mobile and how it can then be transferred and used in the Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee games on Nintendo Switch.

Because that would be too simple, it seems the easiest way to find a Meltan is by receiving a "Mystery Box".

The investigation is still ongoing, but the long and the short of it is this: Professor Oak has discovered a mysterious Metal Box that is made up of the same materials as Meltan itself - being that Meltan is a Steel-type Pokemon that has liquid metal as a large part of its body. When opened, a wild Meltan will appear for you to catch.

Meltan will begin to appear once a Mystery Box is opened in Pokémon GO, but be careful-they'll only appear for the player that opened the Mystery Box.

There is no info if Meltan will be exclusive Pokemon for those players who got both Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let's Go series, but as soon as we have something, you'll be the first to know. I'm not sure exactly what the trailer is saying, but after a few Meltan gather into one spot, the trailer cuts to a silhouette of some giant Pokemon.

A Mystery Boy is obtained by sending a Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu! or Let's Go, Eevee!

The only way to open the Mystery Box again is to wait a set amount of time before transferring more Pokemon over. The Pokemon Company hasn't shared any further details as to what this new Special Research quest will entail, but it will be available sometime this winter.
