WhatsApp set to make major change to ‘delete for everyone feature

Earlier this month, WhatsApp announced that it is finally ready to store its payment-related data in India.

The new update is being rolled out understandably to prevent WhatsApp users from deleting older delivered messages that they could do by tinkering with mobile system settings.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, this new update has added a check where if the recipient of the message does not receive the delete request for the message in 13 hours, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds then the message will not be deleted. "If you delete a message for everyone, but the recipient won't receive the revoke request within 13h, 8m, 16s (maybe because the phone was off), the message will **not** be revoked", WABetaInfo tweeted.

WhatsApp has modified its "Delete for Everyone" feature, with respect to the time limit in which users can revoke messages.

For users of the regular versions of WhatsApp, the Recipient limit remains the same in terms of the time limit and can be revoked when done under 1 hour 8 minutes and 16 seconds of the message being sent. "You can still delete a message for everyone within 1h, 8m, 16s as long as the recipient will receive your revoke request within 13h, 8m, 16s", the platform claimed.

In case you are getting confused, let us clarify that the time limit to delete message for everyone is still 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds, but, the time limit for that delete request to reach the recipient's end is now 13 hours, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds. Apparently, stickers are popular in chat apps in some Asian countries and WhatsApp is hoping to woo more users by allowing people to use big stickers. However, this new update about the "recipient limit" has been brought to fruition to limit the deletion of messages by senders who were possibly misusing the functionality.
