Woman Leaves Toddler On Stranger’s Doorstep

Woman Leaves Toddler On Stranger’s Doorstep

Surveillance video released Thursday shows a woman running up to the home, where she abandoned the child and fled, officials said. She can be seen ringing the doorbell and banging on the door, but then she runs off and leaves him behind. The mother told the father that the boy would be dropped off in the afternoon, but when he didn't arrive, the father assumed the plans had changed and left the home for the evening.

Ring doorbell video captured the incident Wednesday night, which lasted about 23 seconds. She then called 911.

The child was uninjured and appeared to be in good health, deputies said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said abandonment charges are likely for the woman seen in the video, who is not the mother of the 2-year-old.

Investigators learned that the father had received a text from the child's mother, who was in the hospital at the time.

MCSO is still investigating.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the woman pulled up at the property in a white vehicle, and that the entire incident lasted just 23 seconds.

It is too early in the investigation to know if the mom will face charges, Spencer said, but he emphasized that she turned her child over to someone who she believed was a responsible adult.

Sheriff's officials said the woman is likely in her 20s or 30s, had long hair reaching below her waist and multiple tattoos on her right arm. Instead of waiting until someone answered the door, she drove away in her auto and left the child in danger.

The woman dropped off the child around 8:40 p.m. after the father left his home - but at the wrong house.

The sheriff's office posted an update Thursday morning saying that the boy's father has been located.

"I was gut-wrenched. It was very alarming and very disturbing, and my heart was hurting for that child", Spencer told reporters, recalling how he felt upon initially reviewing the surveillance recording. Though her name has not been released, Spencer did indicate that she was a friend of Simmons' family.
