Leave India If You Prefer Cricketers From Other Countries: Virat Kohli

"I enjoy watching English and Australian batsmen more than these Indians", Virat Kohli read out the fans tweet.

Kohli told the Indian fan to "go and live somewhere else" in a video on his newly-launched personal app, in which he responded to comments from the public. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries?

The 30-year-old put forward the request during a recent meeting between the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) and Team India members, including captain Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, coach Ravi Shastri and chief selector MSK Prasad, according to The Indian Express. He added that the fan should get his "priorities straight".

The video went viral and has prompted a torrent of criticism against Kohli on social media.

Some might say that there is so much more at stake for them given that Kohli is India's captain.

"We, at the BCCI value our cricket fans and respect them and their choices. Kapil Dev on song was a delight to watch as were (Richard) Hadlee, (Ian) Botham and Imran (Khan)", BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary said.

Kohli is quite active on Instagram where he can be seen posting video promoting worldwide brands.

Will this go down well with his Indian fans across the world? If he checks his contract, he may find that he may have violated his contract with this statement.

Mumbai: With celebrations of Diwali in full flow, Indian cricket team players wasted no time in celebrating the festival of lights with their families.

In the recently-concluded ODI series against West Indies, Kohli also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the fastest to scale the 10,000 runs milestone in the 50-over format of the game.
