Amal Clooney stuns in $6K gown at United Nations awards

Amal Clooney looked sensational last night when she attended the United Nations Correspondents Association Awards in New York City with husband George Clooney, 57.

The 40-year-old human rights lawyer was honored as the 2018 Global Citizen of the Year, and criticized Trump for encouraging violence in the media.

Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres was also spotted exiting with the couple from the awards ceremony. And sadly similar examples abound in autocratic regimes from North Korea to the Philippines, to Hungary, Turkey and Brazil.

She was referring to widespread claims that the White House has turned a blind eye to the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October.

"You are being jailed at a higher rate than ever", she continued. "You are dying while covering wars, not just because you walk unarmed on the most unsafe places on earth but because you are being targeted for exposing crimes committed, for speaking the truth that perpetrators find the most hard to hear". But because you are being targeted for exposing crimes committed in war.

Clooney hasn't come out so overtly against Trump in the past but VF noted she hasn't held back her disdain for him in the past. She claimed in 2016 that some of his comments "that there should be a religious test imposed on entering the USA or the fact that there should be state-sponsored torture or that families of suspected terrorists should all be killed - all of those things are violations of worldwide human rights law and the values that underlie that".
