EPL: Cesar Azpilicueta signs new contract with Chelsea, gives reason

Azpilicueta has made two assists for Chelsea FC in the Premier League so far this season.

The Spain global has been one of Chelsea's outstanding signings of the decade, having arrived for £7million from Marseille in 2012.

Spanish worldwide Cesar Azpilicueta, one of the longest-serving players at Chelsea, signed a new four-year contract on Tuesday which if he sees it out will take him to 10 years with the Premier League club.

The Spain worldwide has attracted interest from back in his homeland, but the long-serving Blues player has instead opted to commit his future to the Premier League club.

"Since I came, I felt the joy and responsibility to play for this club, these fans", he said.

Chelsea and Azpilicueta take on Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure for Chelsea FC over the past few seasons and he has started all 14 of the Blues' Premier League games under Maurizio Sarri so far this term.

"Cesar is one of our longest-serving players and has proven to be a fantastic acquisition over the past six years", club director Marina Granovskaia added.

Azpilicueta is expected to extend his stay at Chelsea until 2022 at the earliest, in what the Blues hope is the first of a number of players putting pen to paper.

'His professionalism and consistency in that time have been second to none and he has also developed into one of the squad's most influential players.
