Major League Baseball rumors: Yankees "hesitant" to sign free agent Nathan Eovaldi

Major League Baseball rumors: Yankees

Nathan Eovaldi will not be their answer and will be their enemy, as the free-agent right-hander agreed to a deal with the Red Sox on Thursday morning pending a physical, The Athletic reported.

Fancred's Jon Heyman reported Wednesday evening that negotiations between the Red Sox and Eovaldi were "getting serious".

According to multiple reports, the starting pitcher has reached a four-year deal with the Red Sox, two months after helping the franchise clinch their ninth World Series title. He joined the Red Sox in July after a trade with the Rays. Eovaldi's best work undoubtedly came in a marathon loss in Game 3 of the World Series, which saw him throw six innings of three-hit ball with the Sox having nearly no other option out of their bullpen. "We kept talking to him and he was like, 'I'm good, I'm good, I'm good.' You nearly have to be flawless in that situation, and actually, he was ideal".

If the Yankees don't aggressively pursue Eovaldi, he could still land a huge payday because as many as nine teams reportedly are interested in his services. Eovaldi tallied a miniscule 1.61 ERA in 22.1 playoff innings while appearing both as a starter and in relief.
