New ‘Game of Thrones’ final season teaser promises epic battle

In teasing the show's eighth and final season, which premieres April 2019, it looks like HBO made a decision to take on the A Song of Fire and Ice bit pretty literally. The Night King's (Vladimir Furdik in Season 6) army is heading south, and a battle appears to be imminent. The above video is bittersweet in a way because it's a sign that we are actually getting closer to the release of Season 8, however, absent from the video is any actual footage from the show's upcoming swan song.

HBO dropped our first look at Game of Thrones Season 8, and if this 39-second trailer is true to what's coming, we're not prepared.

The preview, which debuted at the São Paulo Expo offshoot of Comic Con in Brazil, begins with ice overtaking the land of Westros, before freezing a wolf representing House Stark solid.

It's all a big tease of a brewing battle between Daenerys, the North, and the Lannisters as they fight each other and the looming threat of the White Walkers during season eight of the HBO series. Will fire or ice prevail, and will that mean life or death for Westeros and beyond? Meanwhile, a Lannister lion - backed by fire - spreads its flames northward, until the opposing forces meet in a violent clash. The final six episodes are said to be the longest episodes of the series yet with the production cost is estimated to reach $15 million per episode.
