Alleged Xiaomi folding phone surfaces in video, could be a hoax

On Thursday Xiaomi announced that Redmi is now a separate brand.

Samsung was first to tease an Android Foldable form factor a few months ago and now a video claiming to show an upcoming folding phone from the smartphone maker Xiaomi has been leaked online.

Last year, Samsung gave us a glimpse of its highly anticipated Galaxy F foldable phone. And if it is, Xiaomi might just have a solid looker here.

So, it is still doubtful whether or not the foldable phone showcased in the video is from Xiaomi, but we feel it is considering the interface looks similar to MIUI. The famous leakster Evan Blass has posted a 20-second video of a foldable device but he isn't sure about the authenticity of the video as of now. It's hardly surprising that sales figures seem to be on the decline then, but rather than addressing the latter, phone designers seem to be tripping over themselves to fix the former with a new range of tablets that fold into phones.

Google Maps is launched and the text is in Chinese, which again fits with the Xiaomi theory, but certainly doesn't confirm it. The alleged foldable phone appears with three screens and can be used as a phone as well as a tablet, which is great. In the video, a device purportedly made by Xiaomi is seen and its screen is shown to be folding from the left and the right side.

The only aspect of the device that's visible in the video is the foldable display.
