Gary Kubiak will not be Broncos offensive coordinator, sources say

According to a report from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Broncos have notified the Pittsburgh Steelers of their intention to speak with Munchak, whose contract as its offensive line coach is up, about a position on Denver's coaching staff.

The two sides were widely expected to reach a deal for Kubiak to run the offense under Vic Fangio.

"After lengthy discussions, Denver and Kubiak had different ideas on staffing and offensive philosophies".

The announcement of Kubiak returning to Denver as the offensive coordinator was met with praise around the league when news broke Wednesday.

Mike Klis of Denver's 9News added a bit more detail, saying Kubiak wanted to bring back assistant coaches Rick Dennison and Brian Pariani, who were fired in Denver's last housecleaning two years ago.

Since then, Kubiak has worked as a senior personnel adviser for the Broncos.

Since being hired by the Steelers in 2014, Munchak has excelled as the team's offensive line coach.

Emmanuel Sanders, one of the few remaining players from Kubiak's time as head coach seemed ecstatic about having the 57-year-old coach back with the organization.

It turns out, though, Kubiak will not be joining Fangio's staff.
