Half-Life 2 and Portal writer Erik Wolpaw has rejoined Valve

Half-Life 2 and Portal writer Erik Wolpaw has rejoined Valve

Pinkerton also returned to Valve around July past year.

The last Half-Life writer to leave Valve was Chet Faliszek in mid-2017.

One keen-eyed Redditor noticed that Wolpaw's name appeared in Artifact's credits, the latest title from the team over at Valve.

Wolpaw was at Double Fine working on the original Psychonauts before joining Valve back in 2005.

Portal 2, Half-Life 2 writer Erik Wolpaw left Valve back in 2017, but it looks like he couldn't stay away because he has left his position with Double Fine to join the PC powerhouse company once again.

Earlier a year ago another former Valve writer Jay Pinkerton, also made a return to the company, but as of right now it's a little up in the air as to what projects the two could be working on. Trenchman then reached out to Valve boss Gabe Newell, who replied to confirm the news (with Valve News Network confirming the legitimacy of the email).

The news comes to us via Trenchman on Reddit and known Valve watcher Tyler McVicker. It's unclear if Wolpaw has been rehired to work on a follow-up to one of his previous games, if he will be working on a new IP entirely, or if he will stick to Artifact for the time being.

For now, Half-Life 3 still isn't happening and there's no signs it ever will.
