Intel releases new 9th Gen Core desktop CPUs without graphics

In its presentation Intel briefly discussed the likes of 10nm Ice Lake processors, hybrid 10nm Lakefield CPUs, and Project Athena laptops, as well as other non-PC-centric specific stuff like automotive, IoT, sports, AI, networking and 5G, etc.

Following their launch late a year ago, Intel's 9th Gen Core processors are finally almost ready to make their laptop debut. We also get the first and only 9th Gen Core i3 part so far and a bolstering of the Core i5 range with the first 9th Gen non-overclocking parts.

"This enables combining different pieces of IP that might have previously been discrete into a single product with a smaller motherboard footprint, which allows OEMs more flexibility for thin and light form factor design", Intel explained.

As for Intel's data centre business, Intel announced a new specialised AI workload accelerator in its Nervana portfolio. Next year, it will be joined by a Neural Network Processor for Training.

Intel also demonstrated its future Intel Xeon Scalable processor based on 10nm Ice Lake.

Intel also announced three partnerships with various firms that will see its technology roll out across various computing scenarios. Compatible with the upcoming 14nm Cooper Lake, Ice Lake processors targeting servers are expected to deliver performance improvements, new hardware-enhanced security features and more, with shipments targeted for 2020.

Intel Xeon Scalable processor Intel said it has started shipping next-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, also known as Cascade Lake processor.

"This network SoC is meant to bring Intel architecture into wireless access base stations and allow more computing functions to be distributed out at the edge of the network", Intel said.
