Netflix is no longer allowing users pay through Apple's iTunes

Netflix is so popular that it has probably decided that it no longer needs to pay Apple 30 percent for new customers. "If you are now billed by iTunes, you can continue to use iTunes billing until your account is cancelled". These numbers are as of 1 January calculated by the App store. The Cupertino-based tech firm's Apple Support page on Twitter confirmed the existence of the issue. For subscription services, the cut drops to 15% on renewals after the first year. The latest Android 9.0 Pie which was introduced a year ago is available on less than 0.1% devices. Epic Games, the maker of the hit video game "Fortnite", a year ago bypassed Google Play altogether by letting players download the Android version of the app directly.

Still in development, it looks like it's going to be a "hybrid" OS, which means the operating system will be made up of two distinct but connected user interfaces. Google likely lost more than $50 million in app store fees as a result of the decision, TechCrunch reported.

Besides Netflix, other services such as Spotify, Financial Times, Fortnite developer Epic Games, and Steam developer Valve too have in the past avoided paying Apple's and Google's "app store tax". Critics have said that most of that subscription revenue is concentrated among major streaming media providers like Netflix, Pandora, Spotify and HBO.

The measure only applies to new subscribers to Netflix, or when people temporarily stop their subscription and resume their subscription.
