‘Overwatch’ Confirms Soldier: 76 As Its Second LGBTQ Character

An Overwatch BASTET short story has been released featuring Ana Amari and Jack "Soldier: 76" Morrison. You must have been curious. We've long seen him in action, but have never gotten a glimpse into his personal life. In the holiday special, there's a small panel where Jack and Ana are sitting together, possibly during their stakeout, where Jack is looking at the same picture of him and Vincent shown in "Bastet".

In November 2016, Chu told attendees at Blizzcon that several characters in Overwatch were LGBTQ, although he never identified the characters by name.

Naturally, this being the internet, some social media users have complained that this is in some way "pandering" on the part of Blizzard, and that games shouldn't force this, that or the other into their content. Sexuality, politics, relatable real-life matters, etc. Ana and Jack then reminisce about their past and, sadly, talk about how they were never able to really have normal lives.

What do you think of the Overwatch BASTET short story? Hopefully, developer Blizzard will soon add such material to the game, though I'm doubtful they'll adopt any of the lines Twitter users are suggesting. Everything I fought for was to protect people like him... Ana said, unconsciously running her thumb over where her wedding ring used to be. Zippy dual pistol wielder Lena "Tracer" Oxton was revealed as gay in the December 2016 comic Tracer: Reflections, also written by Chu. Chu has since confirmed on Twitter that Vincent is, indeed, a past lover.

He's one of the most popular characters in the online shooter, which has millions of players worldwide.

The lore revealed through the comics and such often makes its way back into the main game through unlockable voice lines, sprays, or other customization options. But for now, let's enjoy the fact that two of the most prominent heroes in one of the world's biggest video games are gay.

We don't know much about Vincent, except that he's someone Soldier: 76 had a romantic relationship with in the past.
