Petr Cech takes his place among the Premier League goalkeeper greats

Chelsea will hold talks with Petr Cech at the end of the season over a potential return to Stamford Bridge in a non-playing capacity after the Arsenal goalkeeper announced his intention to retire, sources have told ESPN FC.

Cech has won 18 trophies since arriving in England back in 2004 as a 22-year-old.

Cech who has seven league appearances this season for Arsenal will hope his side claim victory over his former club Chelsea when they meet on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.

He said "The goalkeeper was Carlo Cudicini - the season before he was elected the player of the season - and the first game of the season was Chelsea against Manchester United and I made a decision to leave out our player of the season before, and play a kid that nobody would know how to even say his name because Petr Cech was quite hard to say", and added "After that everything was about him".

Cech, 36, announced on social media yesterday that after 20 seasons as a professional footballer, he would be retiring at the end of the season. In the middle of all this, his career came under doubt after he fractured his skull following a collision with Stephen Hunt of Reading.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho described the challenge as a "disgrace" and said that his goalkeeper 'is lucky to still be alive'.

Both of Cech's Premier League clubs also posted on Twitter to honor the long-serving stopper, with Chelsea listing his considerable list of trophies, calling him "A true Chelsea legend".

And his standards didn't drop after the horror injury.

Moreover, of the goalkeepers to have made more than 500 saves in this period, he has the best saves to shots ratio (75.45) - higher than David De Gea, Edwin van der Sar, David James and so on.

He also won a joint-record four Premier League Golden Glove awards - given to the goalkeeper who has kept the most clean sheets - and is the only goalkeeper to have won the gong with two separate clubs.

"I am honored to have been the manager that, at such an early age, gave Petr a top Premier League number one shirt". In 2017, he had assisted Arsenal in lifting the FA Cup.
