Trump says he knew nothing about Manafort's dealings with Russian

The story revealed that Special Counsel Robert Mueller claimed Manafort had "lied about sharing polling data. related to the 2016 presidential campaign" with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian-Ukrainian businessman who the US claims to have links to Russian intelligence and was charged past year with tampering with potential witnesses.

The New York Times later reported that Manafort instructed Kilimnik to provide the data to Serhiy Lyovochkin and Rinat Akhmetov, two Ukrainian oligarchs who Manafort has worked for in the past.

The report from CNN adds more intrigue to the recent revelation that Manafort himself was accused by Mueller of sharing polling data with Konstantin Kilimnik, whom Mueller has alleged holds "ties to a Russian intelligence service", during the 2016 election.

Manafort's defense team was responding to Mueller's accusations that he lied to the special counsel's investigators about his contacts with Russians during the campaign after pleading guilty past year.

"No, I didn't know anything about that", Trump replied.

The office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller has charged Manafort and Kilimnik in its investigation of Russian interference in the election and whether Trump campaign members coordinated with Moscow officials.

The lawyers also said they reserved the right to fight back if Mueller brought new charges surrounding the allegations that Manafort lied to prosecutors. President Trump denies any campaign collusion with Russian Federation.

Jackie Speier, a Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the revelations raised new questions about possible "collusion" between Trump's election team and Russian Federation. That could change, assuming that Trump's lying about this, but Mueller wouldn't have put this much effort into publicly undermining Manafort's credibility as a witness if that was a likely possibility.

Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russian Federation and criticized Mueller's ongoing probe as a "witch hunt". Manafort pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy charges related to that Ukraine work, and had agreed to cooperate truthfully with Mueller's team.
