Danai Gurira To Leave The Walking Dead | News

This is a developing story, and we'll be sure to keep you posted on Gurira's future with The Walking Dead and her other projects in the future.

The Walking Dead season nine is about to come back from its mid-season break this Monday. Gurira has signed a new deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter, to appear in a handful of episodes in the upcoming season, the show's 10th, and it will be her last.

Add to that her burgeoning playwriting career, where she has been winning awards and acclaim. Two of the stars that have departed, Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, will appearing in spin-offs of the show.

This would mark another big loss for the show, which has seen its ratings slip in recent seasons.

Recently, those rumors began to pick up steam as it appeared that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would conflict with Danai Gurira's schedule on the AMC series. It is likely that she will segue into the three TWD film spin-0ffs opposite Andrew Lincoln, who plays her character's love interest, Rick Grimes. During her time on the show, her star as an actor and writer has risen immensely, thanks to a high-profile role in Black Panther and a Tony nomination in 2016 for her play Eclipsed. We're thrilled for what's in store for her. Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her.

The Walking Dead returns for the second half of Season 9 on Sunday. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal. It is believed that she will also be present in the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters in April.
