Doctor says Trump in 'excellent health,' could use some exercise after physical

"This afternoon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the president participated in a second periodic physical examination", Sean P. Conley, DO, the physician to the president, said in a statement.

President Donald Trump, who delights in confounding health experts with his junk food cravings and disinclination to exercise, is "in very good health", his doctor declared following an annual medical checkup. He is not known to exercise beyond his beloved rounds of golf.

Trump has admitted that he has not hewn closely to his diet plan.

Aides said he now eats more fish than he used to but still enjoys steaks, well done with ketchup on the side, and fried potatoes prepared by the chefs at the White House and at the Trump International Hotel in Washington. With the White House kitchen too understaffed to cater a meal, Trump stepped in: He ordered burgers, french fries and pizza. Last month, he invited the college football champion Clemson Tigers to the White House during the partial government shutdown.

Trump's former physician, Dr. Ronny L. Jackson, became an Internet sensation previous year for his public pronouncement that Trump has "incredibly good genes". "Incredibly good genes", he said.

Conley replaced Jackson after Trump nominated the latter to lead the Veterans Affairs Department. The nomination went up in flames when accounts became public of former subordinates who accused Jackson of freehanded pill giveaways and drunkenness on the job, among other things.

In the intervening time, Trump is supposed to have been dieting and starting an exercise regimen to lose some pounds and lower his bad cholesterol levels. Neurological, cognitive and stress tests were also performed.

Close to a dozen White House officials and insiders told CNN ahead of the exam that they do not think Trump has stepped into the White House residence fitness room. Conley oversaw the four-hour exam, which involved 11 board-certified specialists.
