Ex-White House aide who wrote critical book sues Trump

A former White House staffer who wrote a tell-all book, is suing President Donald Trump over non-disclosure agreements, the media reported on Tuesday.

"The Trump campaign's demand for arbitration is nothing but a subterfuge for the actions of the [federal government]", the suit claimed, according to the Times, and was "undertaken under express authorization and instruction, and certainly with the blessing of, President Trump".

When Sims' book was released, Trump called Sims a "low-level staffer" and a "mess," after which Sims tweeted out pictures of himself and the president in the White House.

But Zaid, citing "sources", charged the arbitration was filed on Trump's orders, thereby violating Sims' First Amendment protections, since the USA government - in this case, the president - is prohibited by the Constitution from silencing federal employees once they leave office, unless it pertains to classified information.

This story is still developing.

Appearing on CNN's "New Day", Sims said he was "backed into a corner" by the Trump campaign's effort to impose the NDA on those who serve in the White House.

Cliff Sims, left, former director of White House message strategy, stands with other White House officials in June 2017 during a ceremony at the White House. A Trump campaign spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment. "He pretended to be an insider when in fact he was nothing more than a gofer".

It's not clear whether a campaign nondisclosure would apply to Sims' time working as a federal employee.

"It's our understanding from sources that the president was consulted and instructed the campaign should proceed with the arbitration", Zaid said. He signed a nondisclosure agreement.

Now, a little more than two years afger signing on with the president, Sims believes he is the target of U.S. government "subterfuge" aimed at "silencing" White House critics.

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that Sims has a right to disclose non-classified information from his stint on Trump's White House team.

The White House had dozens of people sign such agreements at the beginning of the president's term.
