Jennifer Lopez's Motown tribute was a Grammys 2019 low point

Jennifer Lopez's Motown tribute was a Grammys 2019 low point

"I could cry. It's such a good moment", Lopez shared explaining how she grew up listening to Motown hits that her mom used to play when she was a kid.

When the Grammys announced that tonight's show would include a tribute to the music of Motown, it was fitting. Nonetheless, Smokey Robinson is one of the icons of Motown, if he is not offended should anyone else be? The room was literally full of Black artists that could have participated. And while no one seemed to deny that Lopez, 49, entertained with her high energy, her dancing, and her costume changes, many thought that she just wasn't the right artist to give such a performance.

But despite being joined on stage by Smokey Robinson, Alicia Keys and her fellow "World of Dance" judge Ne-Yo, Lopez's performance was a dud for many people watching at home, who previously expressed irritation with a non-Black performer headlining the tribute.

She added: 'The thing about music is that it inspires all.

The star also got some fervent support from Robinson, who told Variety ahead of the Grammys, "I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset. You can't tell people what to love", she said. They argued the Grammys should've chosen an African American singer.

"I want to dedicate the performance to my mom; it's the music we listened to in our living room - The Temptations The Supremes - this is her music and I grew up on it", she said. After all, it's Motown's 60th anniversary. "You gotta do what's in your heart". "I'm just very humbled and honored to be able to have sung those songs". Lopez's performance did little to smooth things over with these viewers.

Robinson elaborated, "Motown was music for everybody".

People were already puzzled when news that J. Lo would be performing the tribute and by the time she took the stage, music fans were waiting to see if she would pull it off.
