Mahoning Valley native Ryan Blaney wins 2nd Daytona 500 stage

This weekend's Daytona 500 had one of the biggest Big Ones in the season with 10 laps left to go, as 21 cars got caught in a spark-filled pileup caused by Paul Menard.

Denny Hamlin went on to claim the Daytona 500 win.

Before Hamling won, "The Big One" came late in the Daytona 500.

DiBenedetto, who held the lead for 49 laps in his first race for his new team, refused to blame Menard for the wreck.

Joe Gibbs Racing and Fox Sports paid tribute to J.D. Gibbs early in the race. Hamlin was hired to drive the No. 11, the number J.D. Gibbs wore when he played football in college. "We are desperately going to miss him the rest of our lives". The 2.5-mile tri-oval is arguably the most iconic track in NASCAR and serves as the home to the most famous race in the Cup series. Defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano was fourth.

When it comes to the Daytona 500, your guess is as good as anyone else's.

The wreck was so massive that NASCAR was forced to throw the red flag, stopping the race, to assess the situation, clean the track and figure out the running order.

Blaney had one of the fastest cars in the 2018 season opener, leading a race-high 118 laps, winning a stage and finishing seventh. Ross Chastain, the eighth-generation watermelon farmer who lost his main ride for this year when the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided his sponsor right before Christmas, finished 10th.

"I thought when I got out of the vehicle, I'd miss it really bad and that would kind of wane", Earnhardt said.

William Byron and Alex Bowman were the youngest front row in race history but had little to show for it after the race. Busch, the face of the program, needs to lead the charge on Sunday for them to change that. Indeed, the Duels were a showcase of Ford firepower, both qualifying races producing a 1-2-3 finish for their new vehicle as manufacturer teamwork reigned supreme. Hamlin was selling late-model parts and struck up a relationship with J.D., which turned into a test and, eventually, a ride in NASCAR's Cup Series.

Chastain was one of eight Daytona 500 rookies in the field - and one of two in the top 10. This one, he said, he will enjoy. "I'm just thrilled. I think J.D. had the best view of everything".

"I really wish I had an answer for you", Allgaier said. "I'll use this to my advantage as much as I can". Thankfully, everyone involved in the crash got out of their cars safe, according to SB Nation.
