Marc Gasol says high post-season hopes made move to Toronto easier

More than a decade into his National Basketball Association career, Gasol was traded for the first time when the Raptors acquired him in a blockbuster deal at Thursday's National Basketball Association trade deadline. He was born in Barcelona, Spain. His brother Pau had been drafted by the Grizzlies in 2001, and the entire Gasol family made the move from Barcelona to the southern USA city.

Marc Gasol returned to Europe before declaring for the NBA Draft and being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round.

"Just playing the season right now".

The Spaniard played his entire National Basketball Association career to date with the Grizzlies and is the franchise's all-time leader in points, blocks, and minutes played. During his tenure, the Grizzlies have been a perennial playoff team. Gasol was also named Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.

Gasol was acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J Miles, and a 2024 second-round draft pick before Thursday's National Basketball Association trade deadline.

First, he showed his prowess in the paint with this nasty spin move and bucket to put the Raps up by four with ten minutes left in the final Q. In 2017, Mitch Lawrence of Forbes reported that the Raptors were open to moving Valanciunas as part of a package for Gasol.

Gasol appreciates Toronto's longstanding Spanish connection.

The 34-year-old Gasol spoke to the media on Monday morning ahead of Toronto's game against the visiting Brooklyn Nets. But he is exactly the type of cerebral player that could help the Raptors reach another level.

He talked about the vivacious Garden crowd, which cheered him during pregame intros after which he had an off night - shooting 4-of-15 for 11 points in a 104-99 Raptors win.
