Microsoft adds new background blur feature to Skype

Life is unpredictable, which is why Microsoft introduced background blur in Skype video calls.

Microsoft has announced that the latest version of Skype for desktops and laptops now offers the option of blurring the background during video calls.

Set up is easy: During a chat, either hover your cursor over the video camera button at the bottom of the screen or right-click your camera feed in the top right corner, then toggle "Blur my background".

Using artificial intelligence, Skype blurs the user's surroundings while keeping the user in focus. The latest addition in the video-calling app is a screen-blurring feature created to obscure any background details. This feature allows remote workers and employees who work from home to keep their background and location more private during a conference call, subtly blurring the space behind them. The company behind Skype has added a brand new feature which might prove out to raise the appeal the users.

The feature is rolling out to Skype for desktop, the web and mobile although it doesn't support all devices yet.

So all the messy people around, are you excited to use the background blur feature? For Skype users, starting today, you'll now be able to do just that with the app's latest version.

It's similar to the blurring feature the company added to Microsoft Teams a year ago and could be handy if, say, your kids wandered in the room while you were being interviewed over Skype.
