Nation's No. 1 Recruit Anthony Edwards Commits to Georgia Over Kentucky

According to 247Sports, five-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards from Holy Spirit Preparatory School will make his final announcement tomorrow morning.

Edwards chose Georgia over Kentucky after canceling a scheduled official visit to Florida State this past weekend. Tom Crean is a great dude, and I believe in him coaching me and developing me.

The 17-year-old, a top-five senior pick for ESPN and the number one prospect in the Top247 2019 recruiting class, made his decision public on Monday via an interview with CBS Sports. "On my visit we watched film together, and he talks with so much energy".

Edwards, who now attends Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta, had received a number of offers but cut his list to five schools in November, when he reclassified from 2020 to 2019.

Crean, in his first year at Georgia, coached Wade at Marquette and Oladipo at Indiana.

The Georgia commitment is a big win for head coach Tom Crean, who is looking to keep in-state players at home instead of rival schools. Edwards announced he was staying home and put the rest of the SEC and college basketball on notice that Georgia will be for real next season.

Edwards reclassified in November from the class of 2020 ahead of the season at Atlanta's Holy Spirit Academy, where he is averaging 26.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals a game and also shooting 38 percent from 3-point range.

A few of the notable programs that weren't included in the finalists for Edwards were the Florida Gators, Kansas Jayhawks, Michigan State Spartans, Memphis Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Virginia Cavaliers, and UNC Tar Heels.

Yet, the fact that Georgia was able to land Edwards and still didn't crack the top 10 national class rankings shows how top heavy it is now.
