He was quoted in an interview by the Independent on Monday describing his violent thoughts about killing a black person almost 40 years ago after learning that someone close to him had been raped.

Liam Neeson has insisted he is "not a racist".

Neeson told the newspaper he had spent "maybe a week" walking near pubs with a heavy stick and "hoping some "black bastard" would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could [pause] kill him".

"I was trying to show honour, to stand up for my dear friend in this terribly medieval fashion", he told ABC's Good Morning America.

Discussing his behaviour on Good Morning America, he said: "It really shocked me, this primal urge.it was shocking".

The 33-year-old singer was performing in Sydney, Australia, when she told the crowd she would sing "F**k You" for the 66-year-old actor, who has been subjected to a huge backlash after shockingly confessed he sought racially-charged revenge after a friend was raped.

Neeson denied he was racist during a subsequent US TV appearance on Tuesday, attributing his behaviour to "a primal urge to lash out". The English pop star slammed Liam Neeson on Tuesday night for his recent controversial remarks by dedicating her 2009 hit single "Fuck You" to the blockbuster star.

Now that assault that happened was over 40 years ago but people were still wondering why Neeson wanted to do those bad things. I was brought up in Northern Ireland. there was a war going on, and I had acquaintances who were involved in the troubles, in the bigotry.
