Golden Tate Drawing Interest From Patriots In Free Agency

What will Golden Tate's legacy be in Philadelphia?

Tate was the best receiver still available to sign in free agency.

Golden Tate is not coming to the Patriots. But instead of wearing the Philadelphia Eagles' midnight green, he'll be wearing the blue of the New York Giants.

Less than 48 hours after agreeing to trade away their star wide receiver, NY has reached an agreement on a four-year deal with former Eagles WR Golden Tate, his agents at CAA Football announced on Twitter Thursday evening.

Tate will help the Giants in the post Odell Beckham Jr. era.

In five of the past six seasons, among all wide receivers with at least 50 targets, Tate has ranked top-four in yards after contact per reception. The addition of Tate, combined with sure-handed running back Saquon Barkley, fellow wideout Sterling Shepard and downfield tight end Evan Engram, means Manning should plenty of reliable options at his disposal. Tate, 30, got a lengthy deal for a player at his age, but the Giants needed to make the move despite it costing them a pretty penny. And the Giants certainly had a need at the position after dealing Beckham to the Browns.

Trading Beckham put the Giants in a likely rebuilding mode. "I don't have time to go someone who's trying to rebuild".

Tate said after signing with the Giants that the team is "not as far off as people think".
