Huawei has developed own operating system for smartphones and PCs

In an interview with a German publication Die Welt, Huawei Consumer Group Business CEO Richard Yu confirmed that the company has readied a proprietary operating system owing to the tensions between the firm and the USA government. While an outright ban on ZTE was a devasting one, Huawei with its wealth of engineers has better chances of getting around such ban.

However, in case the firm loses the court battle and things go worse than expected, Huawei says it's more than ready. This admission follows earlier rumors that Huawei had been working on its own operating systems since at least early 2018.

South China Morning Post quotes a Huawei spokesperson as confirming that this operating system does exist, only that the company doesn't believe it would ever use it. The company has also claimed that it will continue to use Android and Windows as preferred operating system on their devices and will only resort to using its own OS in "extenuating circumstances".

"Android and Windows will always remain our first choices", the source added.

Huawei lawyers on Thursday also pleaded not guilty to federal charges that its CFO Meng Wanzhou violated United States trade sanctions on dealing with Iran and hid its dealings in the country through a subsidiary. Huawei already makes its own smartphone processors as well.

The US has reportedly said it will cooperate less with German intelligence agencies if Germany allows Huawei to take part in its 5G build-outs.

The company in a statement said U.S. ban on its equipments prevents the company from serving its USA customers, damages its reputation and deprives it of an opportunity to serve customers outside the United States. We fully support our partners' operating systems - we love using them and our customers love using them.
