Iran bans Boeing 737 MAX from airspace: civil aviation

The announcement comes in the wake of last week's Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all 157 passengers and crew onboard.

College-admissions consultant David Thomas explains how the system is supposed to work, how it failed in this case and what families can do going forward to help their child have a fair chance to get into the college of their choice.

Boeing said it supports the grounding of its planes as a precautionary step, while reiterating "full confidence" in their safety.

A voice from the cockpit of the Boeing BA.N 737 MAX requested to climb to 14,000 feet above sea level - about 6,400 feet above the airport - before urgently asking to return, the source told Reuters on condition of anonymity because the recording is part of an ongoing investigation.

The black boxes from the Ethiopian craft, which was only a few months old and crashed minutes after takeoff, are being analyzed by the French authorities to determine the cause of the accident.

Flight data has already indicated some similarities with a crash by the same model of plane during a Lion Air flight in October.

Air Canada and United Airlines on Friday became the first major carriers in North America to warn of negative financial implications to business as a outcome of the grounding of the Boeing planes. "We view the interruptions from the 737 Max grounding as a temporary one", he said in a note to clients.

The investigations into both 737 Max crashes are underway, and expected to focus on the automated controls. The airline said its fleet of Max 8s carries between 10,000 and 12,000 passengers per day.

Jamaica and the United States (US) are among a growing number of countries that have banned the 737 Max 8 and 9 from flying in their air space.

Both major Canadian airlines relied heavily on the 737 Max planes, and warned the groundings would cause delays and disruptions as they deployed other aircraft.

However, Aimer said, after a certain point the Ethiopian Airlines plane's fate was sealed.

Investigators looking into the Indonesian crash are examining whether the software automatically pushed the plane's nose down repeatedly, and whether the Lion Air pilots knew how to solve that problem.
