Kolkata Police Files Chargesheet Against Pacer Mohammed Shami

Kolkata Police file chargesheet against Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami and his brother at Alipore court today (14 March).

The bitter spat between Shami and his estranged wife Hasin Jahan came out in open on March 7 previous year after the latter posted screenshots of the Indian pacer's alleged affair on social media.

"A chargesheet has been filed against cricketer Mohammed Shami under section 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (Sexual harassment)".

The chargesheet was filed against the fast bowler almost a year after his wife Hasin Jahan lodged a police complaint, levelling multiple charges against Shami and four of his family members.

Shami was soon cleared of corruption charges by the BCCI and offered an annual retainership contract by the world's richest cricket board. The court has directed Kolkata Police to issue notices to the two accused to be present in court. Shami, in his earlier posts on his Facebook page and Twitter handle, had claimed that the allegations were false and a conspiracy to defame him. The BCCI not only gave him a clean chit but also reinstated his central contract.

Shami's wife Hasin Jahan had accused the cricketer of sexual offenses and domestic violence in March previous year after exposing his alleged extra-marital affair in public.

Shami was part of the Indian team that lost the five-match ODI series 3-2 against Australia on Wednesday.
