Oakland Raiders Release WR Jordy Nelson

Interestingly, the Raiders had just paid Nelson a roster bonus of $3 million at the end of last season. With the agreement in place and the Raiders set to return to Oakland, the league can move forward with planning all 32 teams' schedules.

The Oakland Raiders announced Friday they had signed Nelson, who played 14 games for the Cardinals last season.

"Normally, when you hand out a bonus for next year's season, there's a pretty good chance those guys are coming back", Gruden said December 28. He finished the season ranked third on the team with 63 receptions and second with 739 yards receiving, adding three touchdown receptions. I think as we continue to improve this football team around some of the core guys that are here, I think you can even see better and better days ahead.

Nelson's 64 yards from scrimmage past year were a career-low for him after he had 299, 568 and 508 in his first three seasons, respectively.

After the acquisitions of wide receivers Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams, Nelson seemingly became expendable.

McCarron served as Derek Carr's backup last season, playing in two games and throwing three passes.

The only other quarterback employed by the Raiders is Nathan Peterman, who's signed to a reserve/future contract.
