Saudi Human Rights Commission: Suspects In Khashoggi's Death Brought To Justice

Interpol issued a red notice for the 20 Saudi suspects in the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi upon Turkey's request, Turkish Justice Ministry officials said Thursday.

Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban delivered his remarks to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva during a periodic review of the nation's human rights record.

Turkey requested a red notice for 18 suspects November 15 and another two December 21, the ministry said on Twitter.

Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban replied simply that the case was "in the courts" in Saudi Arabia when asked by a reporter to respond to calls that the kingdom accept global support in investigating the killing.

Aiban's statements come a week after a rare censure of Saudi Arabia by 36 countries demanding transparency into the Khashoggi investigation. He gave no names or other details, however, as the suspects' identities have not yet been made public.

But the responses provided by Saudi Arabia in some cases fail to match the reality on the ground, and in others reflect an unwillingness to bring national laws and practices into conformity with worldwide law.

Aiban also rejected any outside probes into what happened to Khashoggi.

Besides, the Red Notice was also issued for 15 suspects in the execution team while three for consulate employees, according to Turkish Justice Ministry.

Riyadh has rejected accusations by the Central Intelligence Agency and some Western countries that the crown prince ordered the killing.

"Saudi Arabia is a sovereign country".

We deeply regret that Saudi Arabia rejected a recommendation to fully cooperate with United Nations human rights mechanisms to investigate allegations of violations of worldwide humanitarian law in Yemen.

The UN has repeatedly called on Saudi Arabia to cooperate with an UN-led investigation into Khashoggi's murder, but the kingdom has refused, calling it an internal matter.
