SC revokes life ban on Sreesanth, asks BCCI to reconsider punishment

Calling the ban on Sreesanth playing cricket "unfair", senior advocate Salman Khurshid, appearing for the cricketer, told the bench that "nowhere in the world, life ban has been imposed on a cricketer like this".

The speedster had been banned for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013. In the meantime, it has been learned that the Supreme Court revoked the life ban imposed on the Kerala cricketer.

The country's apex court has asked the BCCI's disciplinary committee to decide the quantum of punishment for Seesanth within three months from today. "The court has given me a huge lifeline and I am happy with the opportunity given to me", Sreesanth told NDTV after the ruling.

They all took to their social media handles and wrote heartfelt messages for Sreesanth.

"It is a huge relief for me that the life ban is lifted". I have been keeping myself fit and practising regularly.

He said there were allegations that Rs 10 lakh was paid to Sreesanth for conceding 14 runs in his second over in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI Punjab at Mohali in May 2013.

Including Sreesanth, 36 people were accused in the spot-fixing case, and were later discharged by a Patiala House court in July, 2015. I now really hope that BCCI too will do justice to him. Later, the division bench of the high court had restored the ban on a petition filed by the BCCI against the single-judge bench's order. The Delhi Police had subsequently challenged the decision in Delhi High Court.

On May 15, 2018, BCCI opposed the plea by Sreesanth seeking a relaxation of the ban to allow him to play in county cricket in England.
