Socialism Knocking on America’s Door: Warren Wants to Break Up Companies

Facebook on Monday removed, and subsequently reinstated, three ads purchased by Senator Elizabeth Warren's (D., Mass.) 2020 presidential campaign that called for the breakup of large tech companies, including Facebook. A company spokesperson told Politico that the ads had violated their ad rules against using Facebook's corporate logo. Facebook's advertising policies prohibit the use of the company's corporate logo in ads.

Last week, Ms Warren said it was "time to break up our biggest tech companies" and added that the move would "restore the balance of power" in America's democracy and promote proper competition in the tech sector. Facebook declined to say how Warren's political ads had been targeted - whether it was human reviewers or the company's artificial intelligence tools. They've bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field against everyone else. Blasting the vast power that conglomerates such as Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple have accumulated, Warren has unveiled plans to "unwind tech mergers" by introducing legislation that would bar the platforms from offering a marketplace and selling their services on that same marketplace.

Ads linking to Facebook or Instagram content (including Pages, groups, events or sites that use Facebook Login) may make limited reference to "Facebook" or "Instagram" in ad text for the goal of clarifying the destination of the ad.

"Curious why I think FB has too much power?", Warren said on Twitter. Some remained because they did not use the logos of those firms.

While the removal of the ads may seem like some sort of defense against Warren's new push, Facebook does appear to have had grounds to remove the ads. "Let's start with their ability to shut down a debate over whether FB has too much power", Warren wrote. "But I want a social media marketplace that isn't being dominated by a single censor #BreakUpBigTech". The policy also requires that ads not use the Facebook brand in a way that makes the social media company a prominent feature.
