Trump Renews Attacks on John McCain, Months After Senator’s Death

Meghan McCain said Monday that President Donald Trump "will never be a great man", on the heels of his weekend tweets criticizing her father, late Sen. John McCain, against disparaging comments from President Donald Trump.

After the first attack on her late father, she said, "No one will ever love you the way they loved my father".

During the Vietnam War, McCain's plane was shot down, leading to five years as a prisoner of war, with lifelong physical consequences for McCain.

John McCain died at the age of 81 after battling brain cancer.

McCain slammed Trump is a blistering monologue on ABC's "The View" on Monday after her fellow co-hosts came to the late senator's defense.

Mr. Trump and McCain sparred for several years up until the lawmaker's death last year. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a close friend of McCain and arguably Trump's most steadfast supporter in Congress. McCain "stepped forward to risk his life for his country, served honorably under hard circumstances, and was one of the most consequential senators in the history of the body", Graham said in a two-tweet response. I wish I had been given more Saturday's with him.

On Saturday, Trump said McCain leaking the "dirty dossier" was "dark stain" on his legacy. "Maybe spend yours with your family instead of on twitter obsessing about mine?"

"Your life is spent on weekends not with your family, not with your friends, but obsessing ― obsessing ― over great men you could never live up to", she said.

"My father lives rent free in your head", Megan McCain replied, in a since-deleted tweet.

"I am waiting for Republican members of the Senate who served with the senator for years and allowed him to be the point of the spear on so many issues", he said.

On Sunday, Trump referred to the late senator as "last of his class" at the U.S. Naval Academy, and blamed him for allegedly taking part in bringing forth the opposition research document claiming Trump had connections to Russian Federation.

The president's continued attacks of the man he had long claimed was not a war hero because he was captured angered McCain supporters on Twitter, as Mediaite reported.
