UEFA begins disciplinary probe of Neymar

Paris St Germain forward Neymar will be investigated by Uefa for lashing out at the video assistant referee (VAR) system after their Champions League exit to Manchester United last week, European soccer's governing body said today.

Marcus Rashford coolly fired the penalty into the net to send United through and PSG out of the competition as Neymar - who came to the touchline from his private box to celebrate with his team - raged about the decision. "It's not a penalty", wrote Neymar on Instagram.

"This is a disgrace", the 27-year-old raged on Instagram at the time. How can it be a handball when it hits his back!

"A disciplinary investigation has been initiated based on the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations in connection with the statements made by Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior following the match", said UEFA in a statement.

Neymar watched last Wednesday's match from the stands, having returned from Brazil where he had been recovering from a second fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

Neymar, meanwhile, has not featured for PSG since he went off injured in the side's 2-0 victory over Strasbourg on January 23. "They get four guys who don't understand football to watch a slow motion replay in front of the TV", before ending his comments with an abusive remark.
