Alex Ovechkin knocks out Carolina rookie Andrei Svechnikov in surprising bout

In addition to his Game 3 fight, Ovechkin has now fought four times in his National Hockey League career.

Svechnikov, the Hurricanes' 2nd-overall selection in the 2018 entry draft, fought fellow Russian Alex Ovechkin in the first period of Monday's Game 3 in Carolina - and took the worst of it. The two dropped gloves to brawl before Ovechkin pummeled rookie Svechnikov with three right jabs.

The internet, as always, acted quickly, updating Svechnikov's Wikipedia to read, "He was killed in a fight by Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals on April 15,2019", though it was quickly changed back to its original form.

The Carolina Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov just learned that the hard way. The Carolina forward fell to the ice and hit his head, prompting teammates to help him to the locker room. He won't return to the game due to an upper-body injury, according to the Hurricanes' public relations staff.

The Hurricanes won Monday's game 5-0.

Svechnikov had an assist in his post-season debut on Thursday and followed that up with a two-goal performance in Saturday's loss in Washington.

Washington leads the series, 2-0.
